EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Architect Parr Partnership was named as the only non London-based practice to be included in the BAA Framework agreement. As part of the Framework, the architect, now part of Archial Group, was responsible for the design of the new terminal extension at Edinburgh Airport, and the upgrading of existing facilities. Edinburgh is now the busiest airport in Scotland and in the past decade passenger numbers have doubled from 4.5 million in 1998 to almost 9 million in 2008.

The design of the new terminal focuses on creating a lighter, more modern space, while providing state-of-the-art security. There will be a greater provision of areas for passengers to relax before their flight, offering a wide range of new shops, bars and restaurants. The new airport, under construction during a time of economic recession, will provide a strong platform for Scotland's transport and tourism industries when the economy recovers.

DSSR was appointed as M&E services consultants on the contract, providing design to suit construction management procurement phasing. DSSR is also responsible for construction stage monitoring and validation of testing and commissioning routines, continuing to expand an ever-increasing portfolio of transport projects.
