Completed in June 2009, Tanfield House is an extension and refurbishment of a former administrative headquarters building in Edinburgh. The new design provides 200,000 sq ft of Grade A office space located in the centre of the city.
DSSR was responsible for full M&E design services on the project, achieving a BREEAM score of Very Good – a high rating for the refurbishment of an existing building. SBEM models were produced for the second floor extension and predictive energy analysis was carried out over the entire building.
The energy performance of the building has been significantly improved through the provision of new low energy lighting with daylight linking, displacement ventilation and the removal of high energy use equipment. The energy usage per square metre has been reduced by 60%, providing an Energy Performance rating of D – three places above the G rating the building would have received prior to redevelopment.
Tanfield House won "Best Refurbished / Recycled Workplace Prize" at the BCO Scottish Regional Awards 2010.
