The RIBA award-winning refurbishment and extension of Dundee Sheriff Court was completed in 1996 and provides 3 jury courts, a civil court and an appeal court, together with other support accommodation including prosecution, jury rooms and sheriff's chambers.
The design solution was required to be respectful of the existing 'Grade A' listed court building. As a result, the proposed design is highly considered and sensitive, incorporating heritage restoration work. DSSR provided fully co-ordinated M&E design solutions including detailed assessments of existing conditions to interface with existing services and infrastructure.
The courts also remained in use during refurbishment and the building of the new extension, therefore to ensure minimal disruption, phasing of construction work allowed the court to maintain tight security and clear demarcation between public, staff and secure areas.
