The £10m steam energy centre for Astra Zaneca, by architects Fairhursts Design Group, was designed to supply the needs of the Charnwood Research & Development Facility during its expansion. The facility comprises a generator hall, a boiler hall accommodating six boilers and an electrical substation. Feed water softening treatment and blowdown facilities are incorporated.
DSSR works included six 18MW boilers, substation, site infrastructure, six water storage tanks and water booster house and 300 diameter ring main, with all services acoustically treated. Site mains were installed on elevated gantries.
