The University College London Hospital (UCLH) is a new state-of-the-art teaching hospital in Central London, replacing a number of existing facilities in the area. The project is being constructed over 2 phases at a total value of £225m, and brings together all the Acute Care facilities of one of London's leading teaching hospital groups.
DSSR worked on the scheme design of all mechanical, electrical, public health and lift engineering services for both phases of the hospital. The project involved very close collaboration between consultants and M&E contractors Haden Young and AMEC Capital Projects, with whom DSSR had recently completed the successful Cumberland Infirmary.
The design coordination skills of the project team were fundamental to the development of leading-edge M&E design features of many of the systems installed, including a major emphasis on the fire protection and innovative safety strategies. The project also utilised a state-of-the-art radioactive drainage system.
