The new Midlothian Community Hospital provides 88 new beds – 40 psychiatric and 40 elderly and continuing care – as well as therapeutic, diagnostic and outpatient services that incorporate x-ray, child-health clinics and physiotherapy, among a range of other services.
The design of the building, in terms of both architecture and interior design, is intended to promote well being and aid healing through the use of bright, airy and uplifting spaces. The building has proven to be a very popular working environment for staff.
Full design of all mechanical and electrical services was undertaken by DSSR, including highly specified systems for piped medical gases, ventilation and air conditioning. All security and communication systems, such as Nurse Call, were also designed by DSSR.
