ENNISKILLEN ACUTE HOSPITAL

Set among the spectacular meadows, lakes and rolling hills of County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, the 63,000m² New Acute Hospital in Enniskillen will provide over 300 new single occupancy bedrooms along with a complete range of acute hospital departments that include a specialist Children's Centre for Ambulatory Care, a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and a Special Care Baby Unit.

The hospital is intended to blend in with the surrounding landscape, and natural materials that reflect the vernacular, including local wood and stone, have been used in the design.

DSSR was responsible for the complete design of mechanical and electrical services throughout the hospital. In developing the scheme, the project team has taken a sustainable and ecological approach to design – the building uses passive environmental design to satisfy requirements for natural ventilation, access to daylight, sunlight and thermal comfort.

With the use of low carbon and renewable energy systems complete with sophisticated Building Energy Management systems, the highly-efficient design makes the most of every unit of energy consumed.

The Enniskillen New Acute Hospital is one of the largest construction projects in Northern Ireland.
