COATBRIDGE HEALTH CENTRE

Coatbridge Community Health Centre was one of several joint venture projects between Health Boards and Local Authorities. Construction was completed in 2010 by North Lanarkshire Council in partnership with Dawn Group.

As part of its 'one-stop-shop' approach, the centre brings together a range health, social and community facilities. The health facilities include a dental school and GP's surgeries for primary and community care.

The accommodation in the building wraps around a central atrium space, which draws light into the heart of the building and provides a bright and welcoming place for visitors. This focal point also helps to improve wayfinding in the building. Studies have shown patients to find orientation a problem in many old hospital and community buildings. The design also connects the landscaped pedestrian space in front of the building with the internal spaces to make the centre as easily accessible to all members of the community as possible. The strong identity and community-focus of the building is hoped to contribute towards an improved wellbeing in the community.

DSSR undertook the complete design of all mechanical and electrical services within the building.
