Perth & Kinross Council has taken delivery of the new primary school from Hub East Central Scotland in Crieff.
The school has an integrated nursery and will accommodate more than 500 nursery and primary pupils. It includes a gymnasium, sports pitches, multi-use games area and secure playground.
LZCT used for the school includes a biomass boiler housed in a dedicated heat station facility that incorporates fuel storage. The school has achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating, and an EPC B+ rating.
To ensure that the design met the energy and carbon emission targets DSSR undertook extensive modelling, not only to prove that a low energy building would be delivered, but also to achieve suitable internal comfort conditions. Comfort conditions in terms of air quality and temperature are major factors in student performance and therefore critical to the success of the building.
The M&E design took account of the potential for a third pupil stream to be added to via an extension while minimising capital costs and potential future disruption.
