The Centre for Advanced Software Technology (CAST) is a joint venture project between the WDA and Bangor University. The project is at the cutting edge of computer technology, incorporating virtual reality, accommodation software hotels, an incubator suite, lecture theatres and open living and leisure facilities. The centre is dedicated to providing the relevant knowledge, support and physical facilities to help young technology businesses realise their potential for long-term growth.
The project provided an exciting challenge for DSSR, with many of the computer laboratory spaces requiring a high-spec detailed design for electrical services. The conference hall incorporated state-of-the-art IT, including translation facilities, a loop system and front projection passive wall with surround sound.
CAST forms part of the Technium Wales network – a programme that contributes to the development of the Welsh economy by building up commercially viable technical expertise that helps to form the bedrock of a knowledge economy.
The scheme also recognises the importance of green issues and has achieved a BREEAM rating of 'Excellent'. The British Research Establishment collaborated from an early stage in the project in order to provide specialist advice on environmental issues.
